What you REALLY want to know

Sugar gliders as pets: From page one I told you gliders are not for everyone, here you will be given the up & downs to being a suggie slave. If I do not succeed in deterring you then you just might be a slave in the making. Sugar gliders though they are small require large cages. A minimum sized cage for two sugar gliders is 3' x 2' x 3'. Since they are colony animals, gliders do not do well by themselves and are often subject to depression, over grooming and stress when kept as solitary animals. They require a highly specialized diet, which includes fresh fruits & vegetables daily along with a protein source. They are nocturnal, which means they are up playing all night and making noise. They can be messy eaters and they have a peculiar scent which is strongest with intact males. They can bite and hard. Gliders can not be potty trained, so they will pee and poop on you.  They require human interaction daily, 1 to 2 hours is preferred. They require veterinary attention.

Now you might be asking yourselves why I'm telling you all this? I will start by telling you my gliders are my babies I love each and everyone of them. I want them to go to a FOREVER, loving home and that is most important to me. Gliders are being pushed as the ideal, no maintenance pet of the century and they are paying a great price for that. My gliders will not be part of that cycle. Each one of my gliders has a loving forever home here if need be.

Since you are still reading, I will also highlight the perks to being a glider slave. Sugar gliders a the most loving critters when they are bonded to you. They can go with you mostly anywhere without anyone even knowing they are there. They can provide hours of companionship and entertainment. They are very intelligent. Now are they right for you? Only you can decide, but I have given you the tools you will need to make an educated decision. Please visit my Links page for more tools to better prepare yourself for glider ownership.
